Believing that life always gives us all a second chance is too bookish a thought.
Because sometimes, by the time we finally realize our faults and true potential,
times have changed dramatically.
Like a couple of migratory birds, both Charlie and Edwin leave everything
back in their village and settle for a new life in the big city. For Edwin, it was
where he was going to chase his dreams of becoming an actor; but for Charlie,
it was just another place to be with his only friend, to help him accomplish his
However, life seemed to have different plans as it throws Charlie in Aster’s
way, who was silently walking through instabilities of her own destiny. He
could never have guessed, but he was in for an absolute unthoughtful phase of
profoundness, which was going to last forever.
Promise me a Million Times is a story of dreams, friendship, struggles and a will
to make up for every loss with love by your side.

My Take

Starting from the cover a shadow of a young couple’s kissing moment under a tree which gives the readers a hint of a love story. The first impression is the best impression the foremost thing which I liked in the book is the beautiful cover and romantic title Promise Me A Million Times. This is a perfect blend of  true friendship, brotherhood, parents love, romance, compassion, respect, sacrifice, pain and life.

This is the story of two childhood best friends Charlie And Edwin who leaves their village and moves to the city of Etiole with new hope and better future. Edwin was going to fulfill  his dream of becoming an actor on the other hand Charlie was aimless, he was in Etiole to just accompany his friend for chasing his dreams and promises each other that they will stand each their in their good and bad time. In the new city they meets Max. Max lives in a rent flat with four other friends and he Ed. and Charlie to live with them. Ed. and Charlie settles with max and his friends as roommates. Max and his friends plans for to go for a little party with there new roommates to Chaste City. Charlie was attracted towards a girl who was celebrating her birthday in Chaste City but he was unable to see her clearly.

Charlie got’s a job as salesman in Salud Pharmaceuticals and Ed. moves forward to catch the butterfly of his dreams. But he was not able to do his job as salesman on first day itself, the incident he had witnessed while entering the hospital. Then to overcome his fear and tension and to do sales he got drunk as per his friends advice and goes to hospital to sales his products. But rather the opposite side happen the guards of the hospital had beaten him a lot of because of the drunken state. Then suddenly a girl says the guard to leave him and bring him he was injured and needs to do medical attentions. It was the same girls whom Charlie had an encounter in Chaste City ans she enquirers about Charlies drunk state he narrates his experience of his first day of work. ” The first sight i saw was a man whose eyes were bleeding and then there was this person who had his flesh hanging out of his body like it was some withering leaf on a tree. It appalled me so badly that my body kept shivering the whole day. I couldn’t stand watching all those horrific scenes, but i had to do my job as i couldn’t afford losing it. So i returned drunk today thinking i would be able to do my work and ignore thinking i would be able to do my work and ignore such sights” listening all this Aster Elise Rembert a medical intern who will be a doctor soon. She said Charlie to meet her the very next day. Aster helps Charlie selling the medicines at hospital. So they almost meet every alternate day wherein she would do the selling for him. With each passing day they come closer.

In a dinner Charlie shares his love with writing, in his school days. his story has won the first place in inter-school state story writing competition and fortunately the name published under was his teacher who had stolen his story. He had complained about this to higher authorities of his school but the result was he was thrown out of the school with a blank transfer certificate and which puts Charlies academic career and writing an end. Aster motivates him for writing and but he doesn’t agrees with her words he can’t overcome the pain he had gone through that time. So finally Aster shares a story of her life. Her parents were meet with a accident, her father died on the spot and her, mother was in critical condition admitted to the hospital. the doctor who should be a guardian angel instead of that he was devil. He brutally raped her for almost four years until her mother finally died. Aster had face a lot of  pain and then also she stand up for her by faces every difficulty with a courage. “Impossibility is just a blasphemy that survives in exhausted human minds, Charlie. It is simply a hostile disorder planted by excuses. It puts limitation to excellence of the imagination. It truncates the power of love. Life means to see beyond the boundaries of possibility. That knack is what differentiates miracles from mere happenings” Aster words motivates Charlie. He feels more connected towards her and promises to give every possible kind of love & affection. The story moves on smoothly with Charlie and Aster discovering their newly found love with one another.

Charlie leaves behind everything to write a book dedicated to the love of his life. Charlie writes for his debut book ‘The Crumbled Gender’ – “A girl is not a trophy to be won. The beauty she possesses isn’t a product to be consumed. The sacrifices she makes aren’t brainless. The kindness she exhibits is no subject of pranks. She is delicate. She is sensitive. She takes all the violence and abuses. Not because she is intimidated by anyone’s outburst. But she is patiently waiting for her love to get noticed. She is an ocean of benevolence. She will care for us even when we don’t reciprocate. Let’s treat her well. She never asks for it. She deserves it.” Charlie’s imaginations and painful nights spent in the memories of his loved one deeply touches my heart. Charlie leaves behind everything to write a book dedicated to the love of his life.

He is only few steps away from his dream that his laptop gets stolen (in which his complete manuscript is). His heart dies and his soul gets shattered. Aster consoles him and takes him out from the dead hole of depression.

The story moves ahead blissfully until one of Aster’s old classmate Monty Pebbles make Charlie feel inferior. He tortures Charlie with his rude remarks & tells him that he does not deserve Aster as he can never give her all the luxuries. After a long introspection, Charlie decides to part ways with Aster for her benefit. He starts to believe that he isn’t really the right one for Aster. He leaves her with an untold story.

Charlie was alone depressed. Will Charlie be able to move on? What will happens the relationship between Charlie and Aster will she come back? Will he found out his stolen book?

The story revolves around the life of Edwin, Charlie, Aster, Jonathan Samuel aka Johnny, Max, Benoit Right, Eugene Left, Laura, Claire and Jessica, William, Isabella and Monty Pebbles, Mr. Perks, Albert Ferguson, Robert Smith (a publishing agent) and the bakery owner Tommy. The book is full of motivational words which will definitely inspires the reader. The story flows like a movie and takes the reader on a journey of true love and friendship. The every scene is so well written than you can actually get images of them in your mind. It made me cried i can feel the pain of the protagonist. The language of the book is simple which will make it easy to read for the readers. Narration is done well. Characterization is perfect. My favorite character of the book is Aster who taught me how to stand up by letting go all difficulties we faced in past inspiring one. It’s never the reason of your pain or its magnitude that determines whether it can be shared or not. It’s the compassion and security you feel in someone’s company that makes you do so.

Highly Recommend To All.

Overall Rating 4/5 Stars.
